Report on attendance at the Third Student Meeting of Leading Graduate Schools

The Third Student Meeting of Leading Graduate Schools was held at Hokkaido University June 20-21, 2015. EMP second-year student Satoki Ogiso and first-year student Yuji Sano attended.

The Meeting of Leading Graduate Schools (LGS) is organized by students at leading graduate schools across Japan themselves. This third meeting was organized by students at Hokkaido University’s programs “Fostering Global Leader in Veterinary Science for Contributing to One Health” and the Ambitious Leader’s Program “Fostering Future Leaders to Open New Frontiers in Material Science”.

This Student Meeting featured special speeches by Mamoru Mohri, Japan’s first astronaut, and Jean-Marc Fleury, a leading science journalist, as well as workshops led by the student organizers themselves. The workshops were able to propose solutions fusing the strengths of group members through in-depth discussion of the assigned topics, building on each others’ specialties and interests.

The experience in proposing solutions based on diverse perspectives by bringing together the views of students with different specializations was a distinctive feature of this Student Meeting, which brought together students from 27 Leading Programs and 27 countries.
