First-year student Takeshi Ozu invited to exhibit his work “Human Background” at Cultural Institution Delavski dom Trbovlje at Nova Galerija

I exhibited “Human Background,” an exhibit made up of three individual works, at Delavski dom Trbovlje at Nova Galerija September 11-24.

The three works I chose to exhibit were “UnkoQuest,” in which users move a controller shaped like a piece of excrement to form feces by collecting waste matter inside the intestine, “Hakosekaiojisan,” in which users tease a man living inside a television set by fiddling with the furniture outside the television, and “Seizonkyoso,” in which users generate characters with DNA structured from their own names and observe them as they reproduce and attack one other.

While this was my first overseas exhibit, the reaction during the opening ceremony was largely positive. I also was impressed by how strongly interested the students were in “UnkoQuest” and “Seizonkyoso” when two local high schools visited. With “Seizonkyoso,” I recognized the importance of localization when alphabet characters not used in Japan, such as č and đ, greatly altered the balance of the game.
