Prof. Kenji Suzuki and Jun Nishida win a Kids Design Award in the Kids Design Award 2016 program.

On July 14, 2016, a work by a team including EMP faculty member Prof. Kenji Suzuki (Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering) and third-year student Jun Nishida, a “smart device for supporting social interacting by children with hearing impairments,” won a Kids Design Award in the Research and Study Category of the “Kids’ Creativity and Future Design Division” of the 10th Kids Design Award (supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Consumer Affairs Agency).

The Kids Design Award program awards designs that contribute to children’s safety and peace of mind, designs with creativity and future potential, and designs that make it easier to have and raise children. This year the awards were held for the 10th time. The awards are presented to works that have passed the first documentary screening process followed by the second process of judging the actual works themselves, out of more than 500 entries. Mr. Nishida has now won a Kids Design Award two years in a row—he also won one last year for CHILDHOOD, a work that reproduces the physical sensations of a small child.
