First-year student Takeshi Ozu lectures in the session for all disciplines and generations during the 19th Meikei Tsukuba Grand Festival (MTGF)

A session for all disciplines and generations was held in University Hall on Saturday, June 13, 2015 during the 19th Meikei Tsukuba Grand Festival (MTGF). Ph.D. Program in Empowerment Informatics (EMP) first-year student Takeshi Ozu delivered a lecture during this session.

I took part in the Meikei Tsukuba Grand Festival as a student of the Ph.D. Program in Empowerment Informatics.

Since the theme of the session was “Media Art,” I spoke on the subject “Programming as Wings of Expression,” describing the usefulness of electronics technologies such as programming as material for expression. The panel discussion featured exchange of opinions on subjects such as future ambitions and the future potential of media art as works of art themselves. The session proved inspirational for future artistic creation and research activities, since I was able to hear the views of panelists including Yoichi Ochiai.

In the reception following the symposium, we were able to interact with participants including members of the general public.

The Meikei Tsukuba Grand Festival (MTGF) is held as an opportunity for interaction across affiliations and generations, welcoming participants including alumni of the University of Tsukuba (including predecessor institutions such as the Tokyo University of Education), current students, and faculty. In this year’s symposium, in addition to EMP first-year student Takeshi Ozu, EMP Prof. Jun Mitani (Faculty of Engineering, Information and Systems) as well as parties active in a wide range of fields and University faculty members took part in lectures and panel discussions.
