Third-year student Jazbec Masa also took part in management of the festival. Furthermore, prior to the opening of the festival “CHILDHOOD” by second-year students Jun Nishida, Kosuke Sato, and Hikaru Takatori was demonstrated to the President of Slovenia in response to an invitation from the Office of the President.

We were invited to SPECULUM ARTIUM 2015, a media art festival held October 15-17 in Trbovlje, Slovenia. This year marked the seventh time this international new media festival on the themes of art and science and technology has been held. By exhibiting “CHILDHOOD,” which we produced as part of our Project Research course in the Program, we were able to let numerous attendees from the local community experience the work and to take part in meaningful discussions with exhibitors from other countries.

Prior to the exhibition, we were invited by the Office of the President of Slovenia to demonstrate the work to the President. In discussions with the President he asked questions about the relationship between people and technology, noted “The time has come to find new relations in the forms of supplementation, harmony, and extension,” and discussed our future careers.

It was a great honor to be invited to exhibit this work and to demonstrate it to the President, and we hope it will contribute to fostering mutual understanding between Japan and Slovenia in the field of arts. Lastly, we would like to express our gratitude to the Japan Foundation, the EU–Japan Fest Japan Committee, Delavski Dom Trbovlje, and event staff, each of whom provided invaluable help with this exhibition.
