Second-year student Satoki Ogiso wins University of Tsukuba Student’s Award

On Thursday, March 17, 2016, second-year student Satoki Ogiso won a University of Tsukuba Student’s Award. In the short period since he joined the program, Mr. Ogiso has amassed a considerable track record, including serving as lead author on four papers submitted to refereed international conferences and one journal article. These achievements have won numerous awards in international conferences and other venues. He also is actively taking part in competitions, receiving awards from IBM for a cloud-computing sleep-management app and from Philips for a dish with an embedded sensor. The former award in particular attracted the attention of the media since he was the only student to win an award from among more than 300 entries from businesses and universities. His activities have been regarded highly in other ways as well, including being slated for a fellowship as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) DC1 research fellow in the 2016 academic year after being exempted from the interview process.
