Title: An introduction to entrepreneurship

Abstract: Study of entrepreneurship is a classical research topic related to innovation in the field of economics. At the same time, since 2000 Saras D. Sarasvathy, a student of Nobel Prize in Economics laureate Herbert A. Simon in his later years, has pioneered the study of effectuation with regard to the decision-making process of outstanding entrepreneurs. This research current is having a major impact on a global level not only in the academic fields of economics and marketing but in the practical world of startup ventures as well, by referring to knowledge from the fundamental disciplines of cognitive science and artificial intelligence from the context of experts on recognition of business opportunities. Accordingly, this session will provide an overview of state-of-the-art research on entrepreneurship while at the same time deepening students’ understanding through typical comparative case studies of computer-business startups in Japan and the United States.
