Briefing on the Ph.D. Program in Empowerment Informatics and individual consultation on entrance examinations held for prospective students in 2017

On Wednesday, October 12, 2016, a briefing on the Ph.D. Program in Empowerment Informatics (EMP) and individual consultation on entrance examinations was held for prospective students entering in 2017. The briefing was attended by about 10 people in total, consisting of University of Tsukuba undergraduate students (including students from the School of Humanities and Culture, the School of Informatics, and the School of Art and Design) and graduate students (including students from the Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering and the Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences) as well as students from other universities with an interest in EMP.

During the briefing, led by Prof. Kenji Suzuki, the Public Relations and Admissions Committees Chair, Program Leader Prof. Hiroo Iwata described the program in overview, and then Prof. Suzuki described the entrance examinations and related matters. Next, third-year student Kosuke Sato, fourth-year student Monica Perusquia Hernandez, and fifth-year student Ryo Wako described their own research activities and why they entered the EMP program, from their own individual perspectives. After that, the three led a question-and-answer session, which participants described as a very meaningful opportunity to hear the frank opinions of current students on a variety of topics.

After the briefing, the Admissions Committee member Assistant Prof. Masakazu Hirokawa conducted an individual consultation session on the entrance examinations (which continued on the following day, October 13), and then Assistant Prof. Yuki Enzaki led a tour of the Studio, which proved an excellent opportunity to let participants know more about EMP’s activities.
