This year, the Leading Graduate Forum was held at Waseda University. In this forum, I was assigned to discuss to improve the education quality in Japan or the world with my teammates. Since my teammates are from different regions, including Africa, South Asia, South America, Southeast Asia, we found that even though we all agreed upon that unequal access to educational resources is the most critical issue we have to deal with in the upcoming years, the solution should be designed in different ways depending on the cultural-historical background of the country. This was a very great experience for me to understand the educational problem in different areas and exchange various opinions with each other. As we presented our proposed solutions to the audiences, the questions they asked and the comments they shared were very insightful. You can see that people really pay attention to what we intended to do and tried to think about how to apply our proposal to solve their educational issues in their own country. I really enjoyed having such a great conversation with the audience from different areas. In the final presentation session, we not only presented our proposal to all attendees but also heard other teams’ proposals on solving other sustainable development goals. Those ideas are very innovative and practical. I agree with what the organizer of this event said, he said that this forum is just a beginning, and we have to continue thinking about these issues and contribute our knowledge to make our world better. From this event, I see the Japanese government has put lots of effort into improving the quality of higher education and designed great curriculums for cultivating interdisciplinary researchers to solve social issues in the world. It’s really my pleasure to be part of it and I hope these kinds of leading graduate programs will keep going and cultivating more and more interdisciplinary researchers.
